The decision in the PrePitch of the Real Estate Innovation Network (REIN) has been made – a report from the jury meeting in Stuttgart.

It was an ambitious plan: In early April Claudia Boymanns and Wolfgang Moderegger initiated the Real Estate Innovation Network (REIN). Then one thing followed another: In less than four months 700 startups from all over Europe were identified, which have the potential of pushing the digitalization of the property industry. 300 of them were invited to participate in the REIN Contest. Finally 50 applicants were selected to face an independent jury in the PrePitch on July 17. The number of relevant startups and the excellent quality of the business models and products surprised even experienced jury members. The 25 best participants will have the opportunity to present themselves in the Real Estate Innovation Network at EXPO REAL 2017, the ideal forum for networking with the international property industry.

The very best were selected at the Center for Virtual Engineering of the Fraunhofer-Institut, ZVE, in Stuttgart. The jury of 20 interviewed and assessed the applicants, many of the founders attended personally, many used Skype – e.g. from the US, Sweden, Norway, Singapore, Russia, Spain, England, Finland, France, Slovakia, Norway, France and Estonia. This illustrated the global dimension of digitalization and its challenges once again – and demonstrated how important international networking is, when it comes to developing specific solutions for Real Estate 4.0.

Despite the understandable nervousness of the founders the atmosphere was very inspiring for everyone involved, the enthusiasm about innovation transpired everywhere, there was an intensive exchange on many topics. Potential synergies between established companies and new market players became tangible.

In the assessment REIN focused on the relevance of the product and service ideas, on their potential actual contribution to the transformation process of the property industry. The general lineup of each company, the commercial concept and the team were also scrutinized – and this is just a sample of the criteria which were applied in a highly structured process.

After an intensive discussion of the jury 25 startups got their tickets to EXPO REAL 2017. They will present themselves there with their own stands on the Startup Alley – and they will face another jury in the Startup Battlefield to prove their excellence.
