“The Grand Plaza Has Enhanced its Magnetism Considerably”

The marketplace for retailers at EXPO REAL is going into its second round. Stephan Koof from the REWE Group, Rico Gäbler from Kaufland and Steffen Rosenbauer from Action Deutschland say what they expect of participating in the Grand Plaza.

The Grand Plaza is growing and after its premiere in 2016 it is back with six new exhibitors this year. This means that 17 brands are represented in the marketplace for retailers and their partners. REWE was one of the initiators of the concept, Action Deutschland is one of the completely new fish in the pond, and Lidl has followed suit with its family member Kaufland.
“The Grand Plaza has clearly enhanced its attractiveness and magnetism and, thus, attendance in the hall”, says Stephan Koof, who is responsible as area manager for national expansion, letting and property management in the REWE Group. His target for this year is “to conduct even more efficient and profitable talks at our new trade fair stand with the national activities of REWE and Penny combined last year under the umbrella “Handel Deutschland”. But their quality had already been very high in previous years”.

Drive Expansion

The aim of Action is clearly expansion. “We are growing both in Europe and in Germany”, explains Steffen Rosenbauer, General Manager Action Deutschland. Having entered the market in 2009, we expanded cautiously at first, “but now we have been growing fast for several years and meanwhile have more than 150 branches in Germany”. Action sees itself as an important future player on the German market. “Therefore, it is important for us to be seen. We also use the Grand Plaza to communicate with other companies and institutions. The concept is very apt, fits the purpose and offers an ideal setting for new contacts and sharing experience.”

Cultivate Contacts in a Relaxed Atmosphere

Kaufland also expects a lot of its attendance at the Grand Plaza. “This is the ideal platform for presenting ourselves as a retailer”, says Rico Gäbler, member of the management of Kaufland Deutschland. His company also runs one of the gastro market stalls. “Communication with business partners and making new contacts are our priority – always in a relaxed atmosphere and with good food”, Gäbler adds and invites us to a culinary tour: “Why not pop by. We look forward to seeing you!”

Networking and information

The Grand Plaza mainly addresses expansion-oriented retailers, developers of retail properties, urban planners, local government representatives and consultants. This year you will find the following exhibitors around the marketplace with catering and a speakers’ corner: Action Deutschland, Alnatura, BLACK.de, Dennree, dm, Feneberg, Kaufland, KiK, KFC, Lidl, REWE Group (REWE, PENNY and toom), Rossmann, Subway, TEDi, Woolworth.
