Which Trends Are Moving the Retail Sector? The Conference Program at the Grand Plaza, the EXPO REAL Marketplace for Retailers and Their Partners, Offers Eye-Opening Insights.

Networking is top priority at the Grand Plaza – and the conference program in the Speakers’ Corner provides inspiration and a profound understanding. Retail and politics are working hard on concepts to keep the live shopping experience, and thus customers, at the location in times of eCommerce.

Worlds of Experience in Big Cities and at Regional Locations

This is reflected in the discussion “Local Heroes: Acting Responsibly for the Future”. The panel includes: Christoph Feneberg, General Manager of Feneberg Lebensmittel. As a regional food retailer from the Allgäu region he wants to make a contribution to the mix of industries at regional locations – and yet reaches even customers outside the region with his own eCommerce concept and food retail in Munich through Amazon Prime Now.

Outlets Are Up and Coming

The off-price segment is thriving – and many a mayor would just love to turn his/her city center into one big outlet zone. There is a lot to be discussed on the panel “Outlet is in – Even Without a Local Factory”. Sebastian Sommer, General Manager of NEINVER, the designer outlet planned at the freight yard in Duisburg, which is supposed to be the biggest in Germany. Hennig Balzer, Development Director for McArthurGlen, the European market leader among designer outlet operators, will also be there.

From Future Shopping to “Bon Appétit”

The results of the “Shopping Center Performance Report 2017”, compiled by the market research institute Ecostra, will first be presented at the trade fair and then discussed on the “Future Shopping” panel – including the resulting conclusions for the future of shopping centers. Dr. Joachim Will, General Manager of Ecostra, as well as Götz Hassmann, Director of Leasing at Unibail Rodamco, will, of course, also be there. The “New Kids on the Block” panel will focus on the discounters Black and Action Deutschland, who are preparing to expand, as well as other new retail concepts. “Bon Appétit: Advantage Food” is about food saving the day in shopping center planning. International industry experts like Jonathan Doughty, ECE, Daniel da Rocha, Unibail-Rodamco and Fabian Rieden, responsible for Eataly at Signa, will discuss the significance of food in the shopping center concepts of the future. The “Quo Vadis Food Retail?” panel fits in with this, where you will find Stefan Koof, Head Expansion REWE Group, and Alexander Thurn, member of the management board Lidl Dienstleistung, discussing the structural change in the food retail industry in times of online retailers like Amazon Fresh.
