Logistics real estate is an increasingly popular asset class, and has been in the spotlight at EXPO REAL for many years. This is reflected in this year’s conference program. Let’s take a look at the highlights with Jens Tosse, head of communications at Initiative Logistikimmobilien (Logix):

On Wednesday, October 5, 2016, experts will discuss the latest developments in the logistics real estate sector under the heading “Let’s talk logistics” at the SPECIAL REAL ESTATE FORUM, Hall C2. EXPO REAL is hosting the discussion forums in collaboration with Initiative Logistikimmobilien (Logix) and the trade journals Deutsche Verkehrs-Zeitung, Logistik heute and Property EU.

The event starts at 1.00 p.m. with the topic The Cargo Sous Terrain: people above ground – cargo below. Are transport tunnels a suitable method for distributing goods to recipients in urban centers efficiently and in an environmentally-friendly way? Cargo Sous Terrain is an ambitious pilot project in Switzerland. Members of the association promoting the concept will discuss the topic with representatives from Swiss retailers and wholesalers, academia and other relevant stakeholders. Sandra Lehmann, editor of Logistik heute, will moderate the debate.

The event is followed by Logistics: innovation and the investment opportunity (in English). Experts will discuss investors’ requirements for logistics real estate and identify some of the conditions under which investors view it as an opportunity. This debate will be moderated by Richard Betts, publisher of Property EU.

At 3.00 p.m. it is the turn of prominent investors, consulting companies and brokerage houses to discuss the Value of logistics real estate compared to other asset classes. How important is logistics real estate as a relatively new, but highly sought-after asset class in investors’ portfolios? What are its benefits and drawbacks compared to other classes? What are its prospects in the medium term, what are the current trends and what sort of ROI do experts expect? Tim-Oliver Frische, editor of Deutsche Verkehrs-Zeitung, will moderate the debate.

Finally, we will return to one of the sector’s hottest topics at 4.00 p.m.: City logistics: the future of urban logistics. Here, experts will focus their attention on the near future. Online trade is driving package volumes. Urban and logistics infrastructure has to be redesigned and adjusted to adapt. Representatives of courier-express-package (CEP) service providers and municipalities will discuss current pilot projects and solution concepts with project developers, academics and trade logistics experts. This event will be moderated by Thilo Jörgl, editor-in-chief of Logistik heute.

A fascinating range of topics is on offer, so make sure you don’t miss the event! Your questions and comments to the speakers and the audience are welcome – every session offers opportunities for active participation.
