Christian Hiller von Gaertringen is a business and finance journalist in Frankfurt. After finishing his studies of Sciences Economiques at Université Lumière Lyon 2 and Economics at Vienna University of Economics and Business, he completed the Georg von Holtzbrinck School for Business Journalists, part of the Handelsblatt publishing group, in Düsseldorf. Hiller von Gaertringen has worked for leading German media including FAZ, Die Welt and Wirtschaftswoche as well as French publications Le Monde, Le Progrès and Témoignage Chrétien. Over recent years, he has specialized in the economic development of Africa. He regularly publishes articles, reportages and analyses on the subject and appears as speaker at conferences, seminars and congresses around the world covering economic matters regarding Africa. His book Afrika ist das neue Asien. Ein Kontinent im Aufschwung. (Africa – the new Asia. A continent on the up.) was published by Hoffmann & Campe in autumn 2014. The hobby bass player discovered his passion for Africa through its music, particularly thanks to West African musicians such as Youssou N’Dour, Manu Dibango or the unforgettable Fela Kuti.
