Retail property at EXPO REAL

The “Grand Plaza” marketplace, complete with networking-area, speakers’ corner and food stalls

Part 1 of 3 in our ‘Grand Plaza’ series

Retail properties are among the most popular asset classes, second only to office properties, and they are also becoming a more and more important part of EXPO REAL. The trade fair will present a dedicated area with its own innovative concept—the “Grand Plaza”—primarily designed with expansion-minded retailers, retails chains, real estate developers, city planners, and municipality representatives and advisors in mind. A special purpose of the “Grand Plaza” is networking—one of the secrets of EXPO REAL’s success.

The concept for the exhibition space speaks for itself, occupying a 500 square meter area, taking pride of place in the middle of hall C2. Exhibitors from the retail industry and other relevant sectors will represent their companies within the “Grand Plaza” itself. “At the very heart of EXPO REAL is a high-quality networking area, where our customers and anyone who is interested in the retail property sector can get together to network and initiate deals,” explains EXPO REAL Exhibition Director Claudia Boymanns.

And the Grand Plaza is set to be a feast for the eyes too: Its sophisticated architecture is based around the layout of a real plaza, into which mouth-watering market stalls and a star-studded speakers’ corner will be integrated. The cuisine will be provided by REWE Group brands Oh Angie!, REWE To Go and Weinfreunde, as well as Lidl.

The following brands will be represented all around the “Grand Plaza” with their own stands: Alnatura, basic, dm, dennree, easyApotheke, KFC, KiK, Lidl, REWE Group (incl., among others, REWE Markt, Penny, toom Baumarkt), Rossmann, Subway, and TEDi. Additionally, EDEKA will also be represented in hall C1. It will be the first time at EXPO REAL for TEDi and Kik, while Lidl will be making a welcome return. “The Grand Plaza has been met with great interest,” reports Claudia Boymanns: “It represents a valuable foundation from which we can continue to increase our engagement with the retail sector.”

Take a look at the two further parts of this series:

In part 2 we are talking to Christian Koßmala (Lidl) and Stephan Koof (REWE Immobilien) about the new trade fair concept.

In part 3, Isabella Bayer from the EXPO REAL team gives us some insights into the architectural and logistical challenges presented by the Grand Plaza.
